Introducing the RS2
RS2 is the second and newest member of HiBy’s ‘Darwin’ discrete rail-to-rail (R2R) DAPs. Unlike its older sibling, the HiBy RS6, RS2 eschews Android and its wireless streaming capabilities for a trimmed down, almost barebones, music-only experience.
But don’t let its diminutive size fool you – this player packs plenty of tech smarts, punchy sound, and unique features of its own. What it gives up in OS features and wireless connectivity it makes up for in premium build, ease of use, rich sound quality, and, most importantly, ultra-portability.
As a standalone player with a relatively modest $479 asking price, it’s arguably a better option for those who don’t want to rely on a host device like a phone or laptop, or don’t have the budget/need for a full-size DAP. Tethered to a phone, it replaces the increasingly-popular dongle-style DAC/amp with a more powerful, more versatile alternative. It also provides an alternative to full-size DAPs for taking your music out-and-about, on trips, or wherever a larger DAP is impractical.
In fact, if I had to sum up the RS2 experience, I’d call it ‘R2R To Go’, because that’s where I see this tiny player’s biggest potential.
